Our building was originally built as a textile mill in 1863. Sited in a passive solar location, its thick brick walls hold heat in winter and insulate during the summer. A continuing rehabilitation plan continues to increase the building’s efficiency, as we replace windows, add insulation, improve climate control and upgrade energy efficiency throughout the building.
Currently, 13.7% of our electrical power comes from alternative sources including hydropower, solar, wind, biomass, municipal solid waste, landfill and digester gas and trash to energy. Heat is supplied by natural gas.
