Overview: Excelsior has been producing art prints for a large art publisher for many years. The customer’s database consists of thousands of art prints of varying designs and sizes. They are a loyal customer with a dedicated relationship to Excelsior that has changed to reflect the times and the particular demands placed on each company.
Challenge: When reproducing art prints, it is imperative that the colors from the original print match the duplicates. These jobs are extremely color sensitive and require a commitment to detail. The customer requires fast turn around times to ensure that their customers get the prints they need in a timely manner and are printed with the highest quality.
Solution: Excelsior sent their employees in the prepress department to color management training. They purchased color management software to ensure accuracy and also created color profiles for the customer to ensure consistency. Excelsior also analyzed the workflow and set up a print-on-demand relationship where prints get sent directly to the digital press, the HP Indigo 5,000. This process helps them manage inventory because they no longer need to house large amounts of product in-house. Administrative steps were put in place to organize the high volume of prints and variations of designs and size- jobs are now compiled into one unified document that can be accessed by Excelsior to ensure quality control.
Results: The customer can quickly and regularly deliver art prints to their customers and be assured they were printed in a timely manner with colors that reflect the originals.
“It is imperative as a fine art publisher that each and every poster we produce is flawless, color accurate, and on time to meet our customers’ expectations. On all levels, Excelsior has pushed their process to adapt to our needs and as a result, they have become a strong and capable partner for our business.”
